Unveiling America’s Racial Divide: Reflecting on George Floyd’s Legacy

On May 25, memorial events were held across the United States to honor George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who was killed three years ago by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His tragic death sent shockwaves throughout the nation and ignited massive protests that resonated around the globe.

Adam Solveig, a Black American photographer living in New York, captures the everyday moments of city life through his lens. For him, racism has always been a part of America’s fabric. “George Floyd was merely the spark,” he says. “The issues run much deeper and have been present for a long time.”

Solveig believes that systemic racism is ingrained in society. “It’s not just about one incident; it’s about a history of discrimination and inequality,” he explains. “People are now more aware, but awareness isn’t enough. We need real change.”

The protests following Floyd’s death brought issues of racial injustice to the forefront. People from all walks of life joined together, demanding accountability and reform. “It’s encouraging to see so many young people getting involved,” Solveig notes. “They are the key to driving progress forward.”

As the nation reflects on George Floyd’s legacy, the call for action continues. Many hope that this moment will lead to lasting change. “It’s a long road ahead,” says Solveig, “but every step counts in the fight against racism.”
