From the vast expanse of space, the crew of Shenzhou-20 aboard China’s Tiangong space station have extended warm greetings to children worldwide ahead of International Children’s Day on June 1.
Chinese astronauts Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui, and Wang Jie shared a special video message, reflecting on their own childhood dreams of exploring the cosmos. They encouraged young people everywhere to nurture their aspirations, study diligently, and contribute to the future of space exploration.
“When we were children, we looked up at the stars and dreamed of reaching them,” said Chen Dong. “Now, from the Tiangong space station, we want to inspire you to chase your dreams and explore the unknown.”
The Shenzhou-20 manned spacecraft was successfully launched on April 24, 2025. Since arriving at the space station, the crew has been busy with a series of important tasks. They installed a debris shield on the radial hatch of the core module’s node cabin, conducted scientific experiments on planarian regeneration, and performed a full-system pressure emergency drill.
In addition to their work inside the station, the astronauts ventured outside for extravehicular activities. They installed space debris protection devices and inspected extravehicular equipment and facilities, ensuring the safety and functionality of the orbiting laboratory.
The crew’s message resonates with many young people, especially in the Global South, as it highlights the importance of perseverance, education, and global cooperation in the pursuit of scientific advancement.
As Children’s Day approaches, the Shenzhou-20 crew’s heartfelt words from space serve as a reminder that no dream is too big and that the future lies in the hands of the next generation.
