From hit animations to collectible toys, Chinese pop culture—known as CPOP—is making significant waves across the globe. The surge in popularity is not only reshaping global perceptions of China but also offering fresh, unique experiences to international audiences.
We caught up with the chief director of CPOPwave during a lively walk-and-talk in Beijing’s bustling art district. “Global audiences are embracing Chinese pop culture because it offers something fresh and different,” they explained. “Our stories, art styles, and characters resonate with universal themes, yet they are rooted in Chinese traditions.”
One of the latest initiatives propelling CPOP onto the world stage is the global “container box” tour. This innovative project will see some of China’s most beloved intellectual properties (IPs) featured in interactive exhibitions housed within shipping containers, traveling to major cities worldwide. “It’s about bringing CPOP directly to the people,” the director said. “We want fans everywhere to experience our culture up close.”
The rise of CPOP is evident in the success of animated films like Ne Zha and White Snake, which have garnered international acclaim. Additionally, collectible toys from brands like POP MART have become must-haves among enthusiasts globally.
As Chinese pop culture continues to expand its influence, fans around the world are eagerly anticipating what’s next. With creative collaborations and cultural exchanges on the horizon, the CPOP wave shows no signs of slowing down.
