In a closely contested presidential election in Poland, Karol Nawrocki, backed by the country’s largest nationalist opposition party, has taken a narrow lead according to late exit polls. The survey by Ipsos for broadcasters TVN, TVP, and Polsat indicates Nawrocki has secured 51% of the votes in the second round held on Monday.
Rafal Trzaskowski, the candidate from the ruling centrist Civic Coalition and the current mayor of Warsaw, trails closely with 49% of the votes, as per the same exit poll. The tight margins reflect a deeply divided electorate and suggest that the final official results could shift either way.
Nawrocki’s campaign focused on nationalist themes and traditional values, appealing to voters in rural areas and smaller towns. Meanwhile, Trzaskowski aimed to continue the centrist policies of the Civic Coalition, emphasizing European Union ties and progressive social policies.
