During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from May 31 to June 2, the Chinese mainland witnessed an astonishing 657 million cross-regional trips, according to official sources. This marks a 3% increase from the previous year, highlighting the nation’s booming domestic travel scene.
On average, there were 219 million trips per day during the three-day festival. The surge in travel reflects the growing enthusiasm among residents to explore and celebrate during the traditional holiday.
Railways and Roads Lead the Way
The country’s railways saw a total of 47.108 million passenger trips, averaging 15.7 million trips per day. This represents a 2.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, road travel dominated the statistics with 600 million trips recorded nationwide. That’s an average of 200 million trips per day and a 3.14% year-on-year growth.
Water and Air Travel Climb
Water transport wasn’t left behind, handling 2.88 million passenger trips over the holiday, averaging 960,000 trips per day. Civil aviation also saw significant activity, with 5.6 million passenger trips and a daily average of 1.87 million trips.
