Paramilitary Attack on Sudan Displacement Camp Kills 14

Sudan Displacement Camp Shelled: 14 Dead in Second Attack in Three Weeks

At least 14 people were killed and several others injured when Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled the Abu Shouk displacement camp in North Darfur on Wednesday, according to local volunteer rescuers.

This attack is the second major assault on the camp in just three weeks, escalating fears among the residents who have already been uprooted from their homes by violence. Abu Shouk, situated near El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, shelters tens of thousands of people displaced by previous conflicts in Darfur and the current unrest.

“We heard loud explosions, and suddenly, chaos erupted,” said a resident of the camp who wished to remain anonymous. “People were running everywhere, trying to find safety.”

Humanitarian aid workers are struggling to provide assistance amid the ongoing violence. “The situation is dire,” said a representative from a local aid organization. “These people have nowhere else to go, and they are in desperate need of protection and support.”

The conflict in Sudan has been intensifying, with clashes between government forces, paramilitary groups like the RSF, and various rebel factions contributing to instability. This renewed violence threatens to derail efforts toward peace and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the region.

International organizations are calling for an immediate end to hostilities and the protection of civilians, especially those in displacement camps like Abu Shouk. “The world must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of these innocent people,” urged a spokesperson from the United Nations.
