China’s top diplomat Wang Yi met with Yohei Kono, president of the Japanese Association for the Promotion of International Trade (JAPIT), on Wednesday in Beijing. The meeting aimed to strengthen China-Japan relations and promote cooperation amid the current international climate.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, expressed deep appreciation for Kono’s longstanding commitment to fostering friendship between the two nations. He highlighted the importance of people-to-people exchanges in enhancing mutual understanding and trust.
“Learning from history is crucial for us to open up a better future,” Wang Yi emphasized, noting that history cannot be altered. He stressed that both countries should draw lessons from the past to build a more peaceful and cooperative relationship.
Yohei Kono agreed, stating that history should neither be forgotten nor denied. “While we cannot change the past, we have the power to shape the future through our efforts today,” he said. Kono reaffirmed JAPIT’s dedication to promoting friendly cooperation between Japan and China.
The meeting underscores a shared desire to enhance bilateral ties and contribute positively to regional stability. Both leaders expressed optimism about the future of China-Japan relations, highlighting the potential for collaboration in various fields.
