Early Morning 5.0 Quake Jolts Yunnan Province, China

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Eryuan County in the Bai Autonomous Prefecture of Dali, southwest China’s Yunnan Province, at 4:31 a.m. local time on Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The quake’s epicenter was located at latitude 26.26 degrees north and longitude 100.03 degrees east, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Residents in Eryuan County, Dali City, and Heqing County reported strong tremors, with many being woken from their sleep. Local authorities in Eryuan County have promptly initiated emergency response measures, with townships assessing any potential damage or impact.

As of now, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Emergency teams are on standby, and residents are urged to stay alert for aftershocks.

Yunnan Province is known for its seismic activity due to its location at the collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
