Chinese Envoy Zhai Jun Strengthens Ties with Egypt During Middle East Visit

Chinese special envoy Zhai Jun embarked on a two-day visit to Egypt this week, strengthening ties between the two nations and discussing pressing regional issues. During his stay from Tuesday to Wednesday, Zhai met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and other senior officials in Cairo.

Zhai praised the significant progress in China-Egypt relations, highlighting them as a model of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual benefit between China and developing countries. “China is ready to work with Egypt to implement the important consensus reached by our two heads of state,” he stated, emphasizing the commitment to enhance practical cooperation across various fields.

The special envoy also acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role in international and regional affairs. “China values Egypt’s contributions and stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination to jointly uphold international fairness and justice,” Zhai said.

The Egyptian officials reciprocated the sentiment, affirming Egypt’s firm support for China in safeguarding its core interests and adherence to the one-China principle. They expressed a keen interest in enhancing high-level exchanges and deepening cooperation in areas such as trade and investment.

Both sides appreciated each other’s stance on regional hotspot issues. Egypt commended China’s longstanding position on matters like Palestine and voiced readiness to work together to uphold multilateralism and contribute to easing tensions both internationally and regionally.

The discussions also covered the ongoing Gaza conflict and situations in Syria, Sudan, and the Red Sea. The two parties exchanged views on how to address these challenges, aiming to foster stability and peace in the Middle East.

Zhai’s visit underscores the strengthening partnership between China and Egypt, as they collaborate to address regional issues and boost bilateral relations. The commitment to mutual support and cooperation is expected to contribute significantly to peace and development in the region.
