China’s Tianwen-2 probe has reached a significant milestone, traveling over 3 million kilometers from Earth just over eight days into its mission, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA).
The CNSA released a stunning image captured by the probe, showcasing one of its unfolded circular, flexible solar panels designed to meet the power demands of its deep-space journey.
Launched on May 29, the Tianwen-2 mission marks China’s first asteroid sample-return endeavor. The ambitious mission aims to shed light on the formation and evolution of asteroids and the early solar system over a decade-long expedition.
The probe’s primary objectives include collecting samples from the near-Earth asteroid 2016 HO3 and exploring the main-belt comet 311P, which lies even farther than Mars. This dual mission seeks to provide valuable insights into the composition and history of these celestial bodies.
Tianwen-2’s successful progress so far highlights China’s growing capabilities in space exploration, inspiring many around the world to look toward the stars with renewed curiosity and excitement.
