China Approves Some Rare Earth Export Applications

China Approves Rare Earth Exports Amid Global Demand Rise

China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Saturday that it has approved several export license applications for rare earth-related items. This decision comes as global demand for medium and heavy rare earth elements surges, driven by industries like robotics and new energy vehicles.

A spokesperson for the ministry highlighted that rare earth-related items have dual-use attributes, serving both military and civilian purposes. Imposing export controls on these items aligns with international practices, ensuring responsible distribution.

The spokesperson emphasized that the controls aim to safeguard national security and interests, while fulfilling international non-proliferation obligations. This move showcases China’s commitment to global peace and regional stability.

China intends to strengthen the review process for compliant applications and is open to enhancing communication on export controls with relevant countries to facilitate lawful trade, according to the spokesperson.
