A boat carrying 12 activists and humanitarian supplies bound for Gaza was intercepted by Israeli forces on Monday evening. The vessel, named Madleen, was escorted by the Israeli navy to Ashdod port, north of the blockaded Palestinian territory, arriving at approximately 8:45 p.m. local time (1745 GMT).
According to organizers, the Madleen was intercepted in international waters overnight before being redirected to the Israeli port. The activists aboard aimed to deliver much-needed aid to Gaza, which has been under a blockade.
The interception was witnessed by an AFP photographer, who reported that the navy escorted the boat without incident. Israeli authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the event.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions in the region, as humanitarian groups continue to express concern over restrictions on aid reaching Gaza’s residents.
