China Strengthens Blood Donation System with Enhanced Safety Measures

China’s Big Push for Safe Blood Donations: How You Can Help

China has taken major steps to ensure its blood supply is safer than ever, thanks to a fully established voluntary donation system. The National Health Commission (NHC) announced new measures that not only enhance safety but also make donating blood more accessible and widely encouraged across the country.

At a press conference on Thursday, NHC official Gao Guangming highlighted how improved testing technologies and expanded screening programs are effectively blocking the spread of infectious diseases through blood transfusions. “Our overall blood safety level now ranks among the highest globally,” Gao said.

But safety isn’t the only focus. China has also built a nationwide emergency response system for blood supply, which allows for quick and targeted distribution of blood to regions that need it most during critical times.

To spread the word and encourage more people to donate, the NHC teamed up with China Railway Group. They’ve rolled out promotional videos and posters on 260,000 screens in over 3,000 railway stations and more than 4,200 high-speed trains across the country. So whether you’re commuting to school or traveling for fun, the message is clear: Your donation can make a difference.

Gao also called on community leaders, including universities, enterprises, and public institutions, to set an example by participating in blood donation drives and promoting a culture of giving.

With a current blood donation rate of 11.4 per 1,000 people, China is aiming to boost these numbers and ensure a safe, reliable blood supply for everyone who needs it.
