Istanbul, Türkiye — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned that Israel’s recent actions are dragging the Middle East towards a “total disaster.” Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) foreign ministers’ meeting in Istanbul, Fidan urged Israel to halt its attacks on Iran and other neighboring countries.
“Israel’s aggression must be stopped immediately,” Fidan declared on Saturday. “Our region has an Israel problem,” he added, referencing Israel’s military actions in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran.
Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s readiness to “shoulder its responsibilities” in addressing the escalating tensions. He called on the international community to restrain Israel and prevent the situation from spiraling into a wider conflict that could destabilize the entire region.
The OIC meeting, attended by foreign ministers from member states, focused on addressing pressing issues affecting the Islamic world. Fidan’s comments reflect growing concerns among Muslim-majority countries about the potential for increased violence and instability.
Türkiye has historically played a significant role in regional diplomacy, often acting as a mediator in conflicts. Fidan’s statements signal a potential shift towards a more assertive stance against Israel’s policies in the region.
The international community watches closely as tensions rise, with hopes that diplomatic efforts can avert further escalation.
