Jerusalem — Sirens echoed across several areas of Israel on Tuesday after missiles were reportedly launched from Iran, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The military urged residents to follow safety instructions issued by the Home Front Command.
“The public is requested to follow the instructions of the Home Front Command. At this time, the IAF (Israeli Air Force) is operating to intercept and strike where necessary to eliminate the threat. The defense is not hermetic; therefore, it is essential to continue following the instructions of the Home Front Command,” the IDF stated on social media.
Amid rising tensions, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that a ceasefire had been agreed upon. However, moments before this announcement, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated there was no formal agreement in place. He indicated that Tehran would halt its attacks if Israel ceased what he termed “illegal aggression” by 4 a.m. local time (0030 GMT).
The conflicting reports have left many in the region uncertain about the immediate future. The international community is watching closely as events unfold, with hopes that a de-escalation can be achieved to prevent further conflict.
