China Voices Opposition to Eus Limits on Medical Device Procurement

China Opposes EU’s Limits on Medical Device Procurement

China has voiced strong opposition to the European Union’s recent decision to restrict Chinese companies from participating in major public procurement tenders for medical devices. On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce expressed concern over the EU’s move to exclude Chinese firms from government purchases exceeding €5 million (approximately $5.35 million).

“Despite China’s repeated goodwill and sincerity conveyed through bilateral dialogue, the EU acted unilaterally, using a one-sided tool to build new protectionist barriers,” the spokesperson stated. “This not only harms the interests of Chinese enterprises but also seriously undermines fair competition.”

The Chinese mainland has urged the EU to reconsider its decision and immediately correct what it calls “wrong actions.” The Ministry of Commerce emphasized that China will take necessary measures to firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.

Highlighting the significance of China-EU diplomatic relations, especially in this milestone year, the spokesperson noted that China remains willing to engage in dialogue and consultation with the EU. “We aim to properly address economic and trade frictions and stabilize the confidence and expectations of China-EU business cooperation,” the spokesperson added.
