China Issues Dual Alerts for Heavy Rainstorms and Extreme Heat

China’s National Meteorological Center (NMC) has issued simultaneous alerts for heavy rainstorms and scorching temperatures, as the nation’s diverse regions grapple with extreme weather conditions.

In the southwest, provinces like Sichuan and Guizhou are bracing for torrential rains. The NMC continued its blue alert for heavy rain at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, warning that until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, areas including Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, the Xizang Autonomous Region, and Hunan Province will experience significant rainfall. Thunderstorms and strong winds are also expected in some locations, posing risks of flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, northern regions including Beijing and Tianjin are sweltering under intense heat. A yellow alert for high temperatures remains in effect. On Tuesday, daytime temperatures in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Henan Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Guangdong, and Fujian provinces are forecast to soar above 35 degrees Celsius. In certain areas, such as southern Beijing districts, Tianjin, and parts of Hebei, Inner Mongolia, and Xinjiang, temperatures could climb to 37 to 39 degrees Celsius, with some spots exceeding a blistering 40 degrees Celsius.

Authorities advise residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions against the impending heavy rainfall and extreme heat. Staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and being prepared for sudden weather changes are crucial.
