The China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) has joyfully welcomed the first giant panda cub of 2025 born in captivity at its Shenshuping Base in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
Born at 11:50 p.m. on June 21, the adorable cub is the first offspring of seven-year-old Linglang, following a successful natural mating with male panda Yaxing in early March. According to Wu Honglin, deputy director of the base, Linglang is embracing motherhood with remarkable ease.
“Linglang has demonstrated strong maternal instincts,” said Wu. “She adeptly cradles and protects her cub, grooming it carefully.”
The veterinary team is closely monitoring both mother and cub, ensuring they remain in good health.
Since the 1980s, the CCRCGP has overcome significant challenges in captive breeding. Through dedicated conservation efforts, the giant panda population at the center has grown from just six pandas in 1983 to over 380 today.
