In a significant move towards global green development, a set of new energy interconnection standards was unveiled in Beijing on Friday. The Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) introduced seven groundbreaking standards aimed at boosting the integration of clean energy sources like wind and solar power into the global grid.
The newly released standards encompass guidelines for planning innovative power systems, methods for assessing onshore wind energy resources, and directives for cross-border grid interconnections. They also detail technical requirements for connecting photovoltaic power plants to the grid, engineering standards for testing alternating current electrical equipment, and specifications for automatic control systems in pumped storage units.
GEIDCO Chairman Xin Bao’an highlighted the significance of these standards, stating, “These achievements integrate innovative practices in energy and power technology from China and around the world. They are milestone accomplishments that will accelerate the building of a Global Energy Internet and promote international cooperation in the energy transition.”
Xiao Han, Director General of the Standards Innovative Management Department at the State Administration for Market Regulation, emphasized the impact of a unified standard system. “It can effectively reduce technical barriers, promote the flow of resources, and achieve higher-level connectivity,” he said. “In this critical period of global green transformation, leading technological innovation through standards is of great significance in accelerating the formation of green and low-carbon production and lifestyles.”
Allan Chintedza, ambassador of Malawi to China, noted the far-reaching influence of standardization in the energy sector. “It will significantly reduce development costs for clean energy projects, enhance the efficiency of transnational power cooperation, and ultimately bring electricity to more households, driving industrial growth,” he remarked.
The launch event attracted nearly 300 experts and representatives from international standardization organizations, as well as over 30 enterprises, institutions, and industry associations in the energy and power sector.
GEIDCO, headquartered in Beijing, is a non-profit international organization dedicated to promoting sustainable energy development worldwide. With 1,390 members from 143 countries, it spans fields such as energy, electricity, transportation, information, finance, science and technology, and meteorology.
