Jerusalem — In a significant escalation of tensions, Israel announced on Friday that it had eliminated over 30 senior Iranian security officials and 11 top nuclear scientists during a 12-day air campaign against Iran.
A senior Israeli military official detailed the operation, stating that the initial strikes on June 13 severely crippled Iran’s aerial defenses, hindering its ability to mount an effective response in the crucial early stages of the conflict.
“The Iranian nuclear project suffered a major blow,” the official said. “The regime’s ability to enrich uranium to 90 percent has been neutralized for a prolonged period. Its current ability to produce a nuclear weapon core has been significantly impaired.”
Throughout the operation, Israel’s air force reportedly targeted over 900 sites, aiming to disrupt missile production and other military capabilities within Iran. In retaliation, Iran launched multiple missile attacks on Israeli military installations and cities, asserting that it had compelled an end to the hostilities by breaching Israeli defenses.
Casualty figures released by both nations highlight the conflict’s toll. Iranian authorities reported the loss of 627 lives, though independent verification remains challenging due to strict media restrictions. In Israel, officials confirmed the deaths of 28 people.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a statement emphasizing the country’s commitment to maintaining regional security. He instructed the military to develop plans to ensure air superiority over Iran, prevent further nuclear development and missile production, and counteract Iran’s support for militant activities against Israel.
Looking ahead, Israel’s military Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, indicated that the recent operations could strengthen Israel’s position against Hamas. Speaking to troops stationed near Gaza, Zamir referenced a forthcoming ground operation dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots.” He expressed confidence that this initiative would enhance control over the Palestinian enclave and provide the government with strategic options for future actions.
The recent conflict marks one of the most intense confrontations between Israel and Iran in recent years, raising concerns about stability in the region. International observers are urging restraint from both sides to prevent a further escalation that could impact neighboring countries and the broader global community.
