China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that it will extend anti-dumping duties on stainless steel products imported from the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom (UK), the Republic of Korea (ROK), and Indonesia for an additional five years, starting Tuesday.
The extension follows initial duties imposed on July 23, 2019, which ranged from 18.1% to 103.1%. These measures were introduced to protect domestic industries from overseas products sold below fair market value, a practice known as dumping.
The ministry stated that without these duties, the domestic stainless steel industry could suffer substantial harm due to unfair competition. By continuing the anti-dumping measures, China aims to safeguard local manufacturers and maintain a fair trading environment.
This decision highlights ongoing global trade dynamics as nations balance protecting local industries with international trade relationships. The impact of these extended duties on global stainless steel markets and trade partners remains to be seen.
