Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets Belgian Leaders to Boost Cooperation

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Belgian leaders in Brussels on Tuesday, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation between China and Belgium. The meetings come as both nations seek to deepen their historical friendship and navigate the complexities of current global geopolitics.

Belgian officials expressed their appreciation for China’s rapid development and highlighted the active exchanges between the two countries. They noted Belgium’s role as a gateway in EU-China cooperation and emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue to enhance mutual trust.

“Belgium firmly believes in multilateralism and supports Europe’s efforts to strengthen its autonomy,” a Belgian official stated. “We look forward to positive outcomes from the upcoming China-EU leaders’ meeting.”

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, acknowledged Belgium’s unique position within the European Union. He expressed China’s willingness to promote the continued steady progress of the China-Belgium all-round friendly cooperative partnership.

“China adheres to high-quality development and high-level opening up,” Wang Yi said. “We welcome more Belgian companies to develop in China and hope that Belgium will provide a fair, safe, and predictable business environment for Chinese companies investing here.”

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union, a milestone that Wang Yi described as significant for carrying forward the past and ushering in the future.
