Chinese Culture Shines at Peru’s China-Latin America Cultural Tour

Chinese culture took center stage in Peru this week as the third China-Latin America Cultural Tour Exhibition kicked off at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) on Monday. The event drew around 150 attendees, including representatives from China’s and Peru’s cultural sectors, as well as enthusiastic students and faculty from PUCP.

The exhibition showcases over 500 Chinese books, ranging from language textbooks and children’s picture books to volumes on traditional culture. More than 100 modern Chinese cultural and creative products are also on display. Attendees were treated to live performances of traditional Chinese glove puppetry and intricate paper-cutting demonstrations, bringing the vibrancy of China’s intangible cultural heritage to life.

A representative from the Bureau of International Communication under China’s State Council Information Office highlighted that the carefully selected books and cultural items aim to share China’s development insights and rich cultural heritage. “We hope to deepen cultural exchanges between China and Peru, especially among young people who are increasingly interested in learning Chinese,” the representative said.

Zhao Xiaoming, counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Peru, emphasized the strong cultural ties between the two ancient civilizations. “China and Peru have a solid foundation for cultural cooperation,” Zhao said. “We hope more people will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and participate in cultural exchanges.”

Maribel Temoche Cortez, the local director of the Confucius Institute at PUCP, expressed excitement about the exhibition. “These carefully curated books and cultural products offer the Peruvian public a unique window into the charm and wisdom of China’s development,” she remarked. “We hope it inspires more people to explore the essence of Chinese culture.”

Zhao Lihong, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at PUCP, noted the warm reception of Chinese cultural performances in Peru. “The enthusiastic response from students and local residents shows the strong interest in China’s intangible cultural heritage,” Zhao said.

The China-Latin America Cultural Tour Exhibition continues to foster cultural understanding and friendship between the two countries, inviting young people to connect through shared cultural experiences.
