Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, just before the 17th BRICS Summit. The two leaders discussed strengthening ties between China and Brazil, focusing on cooperation in the digital economy, green economy, scientific innovation, and aerospace.
Premier Li conveyed warm greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping, highlighting that China-Brazil relations are at their best ever. He emphasized China’s readiness to work with Brazil to enrich their partnership and achieve tangible benefits for both nations.
Li expressed China’s willingness to deepen cooperation in trade, finance, and infrastructure development under the framework of high-quality Belt and Road initiatives. He also called for increased cultural exchanges in education, youth programs, and healthcare to strengthen the friendship between the Chinese and Brazilian people.
President Lula thanked Premier Li for President Xi’s greetings and reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to advancing relations with China. He expressed eagerness to promote exchanges in economy and trade, science and technology, finance, and aerospace. Lula also welcomed China’s participation in addressing climate change and the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Belém (COP30).
Both leaders agreed on the importance of multilateralism and free trade, pledging to enhance communication within international frameworks like the United Nations, BRICS, and the G20. They aim to collaborate with developing countries to promote a more equitable and inclusive global order.
Following their meeting, China and Brazil signed cooperation agreements in areas such as fiscal and financial affairs, artificial intelligence, strategic development alignment, and aerospace.
