New Clean Energy Generating Unit Starts Operation in Sw China

Batang Hydropower Station’s Second Unit Powers Up in Southwest China

The Batang Hydropower Station in southwest China has just activated its second generating unit after a successful 72-hour trial run, marking a significant step forward in clean energy production. Located on the main stream of the Jinsha River, the station is poised to become a major power source in the region.

Equipped with three massive 250,000-kilowatt generating units, the station boasts a total installed capacity of 750,000 kilowatts. The first unit began operations on May 15, and the third unit is set to go live in mid-July.

Once fully operational, the Batang Hydropower Station will generate over 3 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually. That’s enough electricity to power approximately 1.75 million households each year!

But it’s not just about powering homes—it’s also about protecting the environment. The clean energy produced by the station is equivalent to saving 1.05 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 3.15 million tonnes annually. That’s a huge win for efforts to combat climate change.

The successful launch of the second unit not only strengthens China’s push towards renewable energy but also sets an example for sustainable development worldwide.
