China’s Premier Li Qiang Confident in Global Economic Boost

Johannesburg, South Africa — China’s Premier Li Qiang has expressed strong confidence in China’s ability to promote steady and healthy economic growth, signaling a commitment to collaborate with the international community to revive the global economy.

Speaking on Monday at the 17th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, Premier Li met with World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. He highlighted the significant challenges facing global trade, pointing to rising unilateralism and protectionism that have disrupted international economic and trade order.

“Economic globalization is an irreversible trend of history,” Li stated. “China will continue to uphold multilateralism and free trade, actively supporting the reform and development of the WTO to restore its authority.”

He emphasized China’s proactive measures this year, including effective macro policies and strategies to expand domestic demand. “We’ve launched special initiatives to boost consumption, tapping into the huge and growing demand of our market of over 1.4 billion consumers,” Li noted.

Premier Li also announced that China plans to introduce more voluntary measures to open up its economy further. “We will strictly abide by WTO principles and market rules, sharing development opportunities with other countries to inject positive energy into the world,” he said.

The meeting underscored China’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with other nations to navigate economic challenges and foster a more robust global trade environment.
