China Pledges to Promote Human Rights Through Global Development Efforts

China has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing human rights worldwide by focusing on high-quality development and collaborating with global partners. On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the nation’s dedication to upholding true multilateralism during a regular press briefing.

The announcement came after the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) unanimously adopted a resolution titled “The contribution of development to the enjoyment of all human rights” at its 59th session on Tuesday. Co-sponsored by China and more than 40 other countries, the resolution highlights the vital role that development plays in promoting human rights.

Mao Ning noted that the consensus reflects broad support and widespread recognition from the international community. “Development and human rights are both important pillars of the United Nations,” she stated. “This resolution reaffirms the concept that development promotes human rights.”

She underscored the importance of achieving high-quality, people-centered development to meet the growing needs of people for a better life. By focusing on inclusive growth and working closely with other nations, China aims to contribute significantly to the global advancement of human rights.
