China and Vietnam Vow to Strengthen Global Multilateralism
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son reaffirmed their commitment to global multilateralism during a meeting on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The two ministers highlighted the successful meeting between their countries’ top leaders in April and agreed to implement the consensus reached during that summit.
Wang Yi welcomed Vietnam’s status as a BRICS partner country and expressed China’s support for Vietnam to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at an early date. He emphasized China’s opposition to economic and trade bullying and tariff coercion, advocating for the resolution of such issues through equal dialogue.
Bui Thanh Son noted Vietnam’s willingness to work closely with China to deepen practical cooperation in areas like railway development, finance, science and technology, and cultural exchanges. He added that Vietnam and other ASEAN countries are pleased with the rapid advancement of ASEAN-China cooperation and are prepared to collaborate further to achieve greater development in ASEAN-China relations.
The meeting underscores the strengthening ties between China and Vietnam as both nations seek to promote stability and growth in the region through enhanced cooperation and a commitment to multilateral principles.
