In the latest episode of the “Chinese Factories Know How” series, we visited carmakers in Anhui Province alongside Xu Haidong, deputy chief engineer of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Xu shared his insights on the current state and future prospects of China’s automotive industry.
Despite rising tariffs that could reshape the global trade landscape, Xu remains optimistic. He highlighted that Chinese automakers have developed strong advantages over years of intense domestic competition—particularly in supply chains, research and development, and talent pools.
“These strengths enable Chinese automakers to expand into key overseas markets through local production,” Xu explained. “By doing so, they can achieve sustainable development and integrate more deeply into the global community.”
Xu believes that China’s auto industry still has significant room to grow globally. The combination of advanced technology, efficient manufacturing, and skilled professionals positions Chinese carmakers to compete on the world stage.
As the industry continues to innovate and expand, young people around the world have exciting opportunities to engage with China’s evolving automotive sector. The future looks bright for Chinese automakers and the global communities they connect with.
