Xi Jinping Meets Lavrov, Reaffirms China-Russia Strategic Partnership

Beijing, China — Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Beijing on Tuesday, reinforcing the strong momentum of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Xi conveyed warm greetings to President Vladimir Putin through Lavrov and emphasized the importance of implementing the key agreements reached by the two nations’ leaders. He highlighted the need for continued mutual support on international platforms, safeguarding both countries’ development and security interests.

Xi stressed the significance of strengthening solidarity with countries in the Global South to promote a more just and equitable international order. He underscored the strategic role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), co-founded by China and Russia, in maintaining peace, stability, and development across Eurasia.

The Chinese leader called for joint efforts to support the SCO’s growth, inject fresh momentum, and transform it into a vital platform for regional cooperation.

Foreign Minister Lavrov relayed President Putin’s sincere greetings and noted that under the strategic guidance of Xi and Putin, Russia-China relations continue to deepen. He reaffirmed Russia’s strong commitment to strengthening ties with China and expressed hope for maintaining high-level exchanges this year, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

Lavrov also emphasized enhanced coordination in regional and international affairs. He voiced firm support for China’s rotating presidency of the SCO and pledged to work together to ensure the success of the upcoming SCO summit in Tianjin.
