NVIDIA Set to Resume H20 AI Chip Sales to Chinese Mainland

NVIDIA is set to resume sales of its H20 artificial intelligence chips to the Chinese mainland, the company announced on Monday. The U.S. chip giant is filing applications with the U.S. government and expects to receive the necessary licenses soon.

“The U.S. government has assured NVIDIA that licenses will be granted, and NVIDIA hopes to start deliveries soon,” the company said in a statement. Deliveries are expected to begin shortly after approval.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang expressed his excitement during a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday. “We’ll start to sell H20s to the Chinese market. I’m looking forward to shipping H20s very soon. I’m very happy with that very good news,” Huang said.

He is scheduled to attend the third China International Supply Chain Expo on Wednesday.

Huang also announced the development of a new AI chip called the RTX Pro GPU. He emphasized its significance, stating, “It’s designed for computer graphics, digital twins, and AI.”

Huang praised China’s rapid advancements in AI, describing the market as both “large” and “dynamic.” “AI is moving very fast in China,” he noted, highlighting the country’s strong talent pool and stating that China is home to 50 percent of the world’s AI researchers.

“AI is being applied to everything from consumer applications, internet shopping, grocery delivery to self-driving cars and all these incredible applications,” Huang added.

The move to resume sales comes amid easing tensions between Washington and Beijing, with China relaxing controls on rare earth exports and the U.S. allowing chip design software services to resume in China.
