Chinese Envoy Urges Israel to Honor Humanitarian Law in Gaza

China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has called on Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law amid the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at the UN Security Council’s open debate on the Middle East, Fu highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where hostilities have led to tens of thousands of deaths and widespread devastation.

“China urges Israel to immediately cease all military operations in the Gaza Strip, fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, fully restore access to humanitarian supplies, and support aid efforts by the UN and other humanitarian agencies,” Fu said.

According to Gaza health authorities on Wednesday, the death toll has reached 59,219, with 143,045 people injured since October 2023. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that the hunger crisis in Gaza is unprecedented, with aid organizations reporting mass starvation spreading across the region.

The World Health Organization also voiced concerns, stating that Gaza is facing man-made “mass starvation” as hunger-related deaths surge.

The escalating crisis has drawn international attention, with calls for immediate action to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza. Humanitarian organizations are urging all parties to prioritize the protection of civilians and ensure the delivery of essential aid.
