Chinese Envoy Refutes Us Lies on Xinjiang at Un Security Council

Chinese Envoy Challenges U.S. Accusations on Xinjiang at UN Debate

New York — China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, strongly refuted U.S. accusations regarding the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region during a UN Security Council open debate on Thursday. The debate focused on cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In his address, Fu dismissed the U.S. claims as baseless, asserting that Xinjiang currently enjoys social stability, economic prosperity, and improved living standards for its residents. He described Xinjiang as experiencing its best period of development.

"The United States has gone to great lengths to hype up the so-called Xinjiang issue in a vain attempt to interfere in China’s internal affairs and curb China’s development, only to lay bare their true colors, which are hegemonic and based on double standards," Fu declared.

Fu highlighted that over the past six years, more than 100 countries, including many Islamic nations, have expressed support for China’s position on Xinjiang at the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. These countries have opposed politicizing human rights issues and using them as a pretext to interfere in other countries’ domestic affairs.

"This is a message loud and clear," Fu stressed. "The U.S.’s scheme to contain China with Xinjiang is very much bankrupt, and its sinister intention to provoke bloc confrontation by discrediting and suppressing China has failed miserably."

Turning the tables on the U.S., Fu questioned America’s sincerity regarding human rights concerns. "If the U.S. truly cared about the human rights of Muslims, why does it turn a blind eye to the living hell in Gaza? Why has it ignored the historical injustices suffered by the Palestinian people?" he asked.

Fu further criticized the U.S. for neglecting its own domestic issues, such as gun violence, racial discrimination, and violations of citizens’ rights. "Under the guise of human rights, it wantonly interferes in other countries’ internal affairs and violates the human rights of unnumbered people in developing nations," he said.

Concluding his remarks, Fu urged the U.S. to reflect on its actions. "We urge the U.S. to reflect on its own ills and wrongdoings, change course, and put more effort into practical, positive actions for international peace and security," he stated.
