China is gearing up to boost its grain output to new heights by 2025, according to a recent report released by the Chinese Agriculture Outlook Committee under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Building on last year’s record harvest of 706.5 million tonnes, the country aims to reach a grain output of 709 million tonnes.
The projected increase is driven by enhanced efforts to improve crop yields on a large scale and growing enthusiasm among farmers for grain planting and production. The report highlights that in 2025, soybean output is expected to rise by 2.5 percent year on year to reach 21.17 million tonnes.
As domestic grain production rises and consumption growth slows, China anticipates a decline in imports of bulk agricultural products. Over the next decade, the country is expected to achieve significant advancements in agricultural productivity, with notable improvements in overall grain production capacity. Additionally, China plans to enhance its ability to tackle major risks and challenges facing the agricultural sector.
This focus on agricultural development not only aims to secure food supply for China’s population but also strengthens its position in global agricultural markets.
