China’s Sun Yujie clinched gold in the women’s 25m pistol final at the ISSF World Cup in Lima, marking her second consecutive gold medal this year. Her stellar performance on the final day added to an impressive haul for the Chinese shooting team, which wrapped up the event with 4 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
The competition was intense as both China and India fielded three shooters in the final. Sun and her teammate Yao Qianxun showcased remarkable consistency, each scoring 11 hits out of 15 shots to take an early lead. However, fellow teammate Zu Pengwen faced an early exit, finishing in eighth place after the knockout stage.
As the final rounds progressed, Sun and Yao remained strong contenders for the medals, alongside India’s Simranpreet Kaur Brar. Indian shooter Manu Bhaker put up a fierce fight, narrowly avoiding elimination multiple times. In the end, Sun secured the gold by a single shot over Brar, while Yao claimed the bronze, solidifying China’s dominance in the event. Bhaker, despite her efforts, missed her last four shots, preventing her from stepping onto the podium.
The success in Lima boosts the Chinese team’s morale as they look forward to the next ISSF World Cup stop in Munich this June. Sun’s back-to-back victories position her as a leading figure in shooting sports, inspiring young athletes across the Global South.
