Thousands of PSV Eindhoven fans flooded the streets to celebrate their club’s 26th Dutch Eredivisie title after a dramatic season finale on Sunday.
Ajax seemed poised to secure the title, sitting nine points clear at the top of the table earlier in the season. However, a shocking four-match winless streak opened the door for PSV to make an incredible comeback.
Last Sunday, PSV’s chances appeared slim when they trailed 2-0 after just 10 minutes against third-placed Feyenoord. But they fought back to 2-2 before Noa Lang scored a sensational winner in the ninth minute of stoppage time, sealing a 3-2 victory.
Meanwhile, Ajax’s woes continued as they suffered a 3-0 home defeat to NEC Nijmegen and then conceded a last-minute equalizer in a 2-2 draw at Groningen.
Under the guidance of former Ajax coach Peter Bosz, PSV climbed to the top of the table for the first time since February, leading Ajax by a single point heading into the final matchday.
Although Ajax secured a 2-0 home win over Twente on the final day, it wasn’t enough. PSV triumphed 3-1 against Sparta Rotterdam, clinching the championship and retaining their title.
On Monday, the PSV squad and staff paraded through the city aboard a bus, trophy in hand, as jubilant supporters celebrated their team’s remarkable achievement.
