China and Myanmar marked a significant milestone on Sunday, celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing exchanged warm messages, highlighting the enduring friendship between the two nations.
President Xi emphasized the strength of the “Paukphaw” (fraternal) friendship, noting how it has withstood the test of time. “Over the past 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, our friendship has grown even stronger,” Xi said.
He recalled his recent meeting with Min Aung Hlaing in Russia, where they reached important agreements on building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future. Xi expressed China’s commitment to working with Myanmar to seize the opportunity presented by the anniversary to enhance cooperation under initiatives like the Belt and Road, Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative.
Min Aung Hlaing reflected on Xi’s historic visit to Myanmar in 2020, calling it a new chapter in their bilateral relations. He praised China’s prompt humanitarian assistance after a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar earlier this year, showcasing the deep bond between the two peoples.
The Myanmar leader expressed gratitude for China’s support in Myanmar’s pursuit of peace, stability, national reconciliation, and economic development. “We look forward to accelerating cooperation across various fields and forging a stronger, more resilient, and mutually beneficial partnership,” Min Aung Hlaing said.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang also exchanged congratulations with Min Aung Hlaing, noting the significant progress made over the past 75 years. Li voiced his readiness to deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation and advance the building of a China-Myanmar community with a shared future, injecting new momentum into both countries’ development.
Under the guidance of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, relations between China and Myanmar continue to grow steadily. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to working together for the benefit of their peoples, reinforcing a partnership that stands as a fine example of international friendship.
