Medvedev Advances to 2nd Round at Atp Halle Open

Medvedev Cruises into Second Round at Halle Open

Daniil Medvedev, the third seed at the ATP Halle Open in Germany, displayed impressive form on Monday as he eased past Germany’s Daniel Altmaier in straight sets. The 29-year-old Russian secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory, showcasing his prowess on grass courts ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.

Medvedev, currently ranked 11th in the ATP rankings, is aiming to regain his top form after early exits at the Australian Open and French Open. He began his grass-court season with a quarterfinal appearance in ‘s-Hertogenbosch last week, and his performance in Halle suggests he’s finding his rhythm.

In the opening set against Altmaier, Medvedev broke serve to take a 4-3 lead with a delicate volley that caught the line. He sealed the set with a brilliant running backhand, putting pressure on his opponent. Despite Altmaier saving two match points on Medvedev’s serve, the 2021 US Open champion remained composed and closed out the second set in similar fashion.

This victory brings Medvedev closer to his first grass-court title since winning in Mallorca in 2021. “I’m feeling confident on the grass,” Medvedev said after the match. “Every match is a step forward, and I’m looking forward to the next round.”

Medvedev will face France’s Quentin Halys in the second round as he continues his campaign at the Halle Open.
