Anti-war protests have erupted in cities across the United States following U.S. military strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. Demonstrators gathered in New York City, Washington, D.C., and other urban centers to voice their opposition to the military action.
In New York’s Times Square, around 100 protesters held signs reading “Stop the War on Iran” and “Hands Off Iran.” Similar scenes unfolded outside the White House in Washington, D.C., where crowds demanded an end to the escalating tensions.
The ANSWER Coalition, an anti-war organization, coordinated emergency demonstrations in over 15 cities nationwide. “President Trump’s unprovoked bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities is an outright war crime,” stated a post on the group’s website. “It violates the UN Charter, international law, and the U.S. Constitution.”
“We demand an immediate end to U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran and its sovereignty,” urged the Coalition. They emphasized that Americans seek increased funding for healthcare, education, and infrastructure, rather than engaging in new conflicts.
Etan Mabourakh, organizing manager with the National Iranian American Council, spoke at the Times Square protest. “We urge restraint. We urge diplomacy,” he said. “Diplomacy is the only way to solve problems. Bombs have never brought liberation.”
Protesters expressed concern that the military action endangers both Iranian and American lives and serves only the interests of the military-industrial complex. They criticized the decision to strike without Congressional approval, fearing it would lead to serious reprisals and put soldiers at risk.
More demonstrations are planned in the coming days, including a national march in Washington, D.C., on June 28, as activists continue to rally against further military escalation.
