The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy’s aircraft carrier Shandong is set to visit Hong Kong from July 3 to 7, leading a naval fleet that will offer open tours and cultural exchange activities to the public. Approved by the Central Military Commission, the fleet also includes the missile destroyers Yan’an and Zhanjiang, as well as the missile frigate Yuncheng.
According to an official statement from China’s Ministry of National Defense released on Saturday, the events aim to provide local residents with a direct and in-depth understanding of China’s advancements in national defense and military development in the new era.
Since Hong Kong’s return to China in 1997, the PLA Navy has visited the city multiple times, with the first visit occurring in 2001. These visits have served as a bridge for enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening ties between the PLA and the residents of Hong Kong.
