China and Kyrgyzstan are strengthening their partnership as China’s top legislator, Zhao Leji, made an official goodwill visit to Bishkek from Wednesday to Thursday. Zhao, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, met with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
During his meeting with President Japarov, Zhao conveyed President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings and highlighted the strong development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations. He emphasized China’s willingness to work closely with Kyrgyzstan to deepen strategic mutual trust, support each other’s core interests, and expand trade and investment.
Zhao called for advancing the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway and strengthening cooperation in areas such as cross-border road construction, modernization of ports, digital trade, and green energy. He also suggested promoting people-to-people exchanges and implementing projects that benefit the livelihoods of both nations.
“China is ready to work with Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries to uphold the China-Central Asia Spirit,” Zhao noted, underscoring the importance of building a closer community with a shared future.
President Japarov expressed his appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s firm support for China’s positions on issues concerning its core interests, including Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Xizang. He voiced his commitment to actively participating in the Belt and Road Initiative and enhancing cooperation in investment, finance, culture, and legislative affairs.
Calling the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway not just an important transportation corridor but also a “road of friendship,” Japarov expressed his eagerness to see the project move forward.
In his talks with Parliament Speaker Turgunbek uulu, Zhao emphasized the importance of legislative exchanges between the two nations. He called for strengthening communication at all levels, providing legal guarantees for practical cooperation, and safeguarding the common interests of developing countries through coordination in multilateral parliamentary mechanisms.
Turgunbek uulu echoed these sentiments, stating that the Kyrgyz Parliament is willing to work closely with the NPC of China. He highlighted the role of legislative bodies in promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and improving the investment and business environment.
