China Says Us Tariffs over Fentanyl Undermine Anti drug Cooperation

China Says U.S. Tariffs on Fentanyl Hurt Anti-Drug Cooperation

China has accused the United States of undermining joint efforts to combat drug trafficking by imposing tariffs on fentanyl-related substances. On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed concerns that these tariffs have severely impacted bilateral dialogue and cooperation in fighting the opioid crisis.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Lin Jian emphasized that fentanyl abuse is a challenge primarily faced by the United States. “The fentanyl issue is one for the United States to address, and the responsibility lies with them,” Lin stated. “By imposing unreasonable tariffs on fentanyl, the U.S. has ignored China’s goodwill, damaged our interests, and hindered cooperation in anti-drug efforts.”

Lin urged the United States to cease blaming others and to engage in constructive dialogue. “If the U.S. truly wishes to collaborate with China, it should engage in discussions based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit,” he added.

Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, has been linked to a significant rise in overdose deaths in the United States. Cooperation between China and the U.S. is considered vital in curbing the illegal production and trafficking of fentanyl and its analogs.
