China led 5g Broadcasting Standard Adopted by Global Telecom Authority

China Leads Global Adoption of New 5G Broadcasting Standard

In a significant leap for media technology, China Media Group (CMG) has spearheaded the development of a new international standard for 5G broadcasting. The standard, known as ITU-R BT.2550, was officially released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations agency responsible for global communication standards.

This groundbreaking standard outlines how broadcasters can harness 5G networks to produce and share high-quality video and audio content more efficiently. It’s expected to revolutionize live broadcasting by leveraging the speed and reliability of 5G technology.

As the sixth international broadcasting standard developed or co-developed by CMG, ITU-R BT.2550 builds on China’s experience using 5G technology to broadcast major events. The standard demonstrates how mobile networks can support faster and more flexible content creation for television and online platforms.

During its development, experts from Europe contributed insights from their own 5G broadcasting projects, enhancing the standard’s global applicability. Representatives from various countries praised the standard, noting its potential to help broadcasters worldwide fully utilize 5G’s capabilities.

Two additional proposed standards—one focusing on cloud computing for media production and another on advanced video color technology—are currently under review and expected to be approved soon. These advancements highlight China’s growing role in shaping global media content creation and delivery, especially as emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and ultra-high-definition video become more prevalent.
