International Expo in Western China Draws over 3000 Companies

Over 3,000 Companies Unite at Western China Fair, Showcasing Global Innovation

Over 3,000 companies from 62 countries and regions have gathered in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, for the 20th Western China International Fair (WCIF), which opened on Sunday. The fair is showcasing cutting-edge technologies and a diverse array of products, highlighting the region’s growing role in the global market.

This year’s event features two guest countries of honor for the first time: Laos and Hungary. Laos’ pavilion is spotlighting tea, coffee, furniture, and handicrafts, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich cultural heritage. Hungary’s pavilion presents 17 firms specializing in wine, medical devices, and eco-friendly water treatment technology, emphasizing sustainable solutions.

“The fair provides valuable opportunities for business matchmaking, investment cooperation, and information sharing for enterprises from Laos and other countries,” said Lao Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune at the opening ceremony. “It effectively enhances connectivity and integration in regional commodity markets.”

Among the international exhibitors is Fransisca Pauline Tjandra from Indonesia, making her first appearance at the fair. Showcasing handmade accessories and running workshops on crafting shell necklaces, she hopes to introduce Indonesian handicrafts to more Chinese people through the event. “To attend the fair, I even learned some basic Chinese, like ‘nihao’ (hello), ‘xiexie’ (thanks), and ‘Duoshaoqian?’ (How much?),” she shared.

The WCIF, hosted by the Sichuan provincial government, runs until Thursday, offering a dynamic platform for global enterprises to connect, collaborate, and explore new opportunities in the vibrant market of western China.
