China Warns U.S. Golden Dome Could Spark Space Arms Race

China has cautioned the United States that its pursuit of the Golden Dome system and deployment of space-based weapons may ignite a new arms race in outer space.

At a press conference on Thursday, Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, expressed serious concerns over these developments.

“The U.S. actions will once again open Pandora’s box,” Zhang stated. “This proves again that no country has done more than the United States in militarizing space and making it a battlefield.”

He emphasized that such actions violate the principles of the Outer Space Treaty, an international agreement aimed at preventing the weaponization of space.

China is urging the U.S. to cease expanding its military presence in space and to take concrete steps to maintain global strategic stability.

The Outer Space Treaty, signed in 1967, forms the basis for international space law, prohibiting the placement of nuclear weapons or any other kinds of weapons of mass destruction in orbit or on celestial bodies.

The development of space-based defense systems has long been a contentious issue, with concerns that it could lead to an escalation in militarization among nations with advanced space capabilities.

As the international community navigates the complexities of space exploration and defense, calls for cooperation and adherence to treaties remain critical for maintaining peace and stability beyond our planet.
