The first meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism kicked off in London on Monday, sparking optimism for future cooperation between the two nations.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with U.S. representatives to discuss avenues for enhancing economic ties.
According to Wu Zewei, a special researcher at Sushang Bank, the meeting is a positive step toward boosting bilateral cooperation. “There is still much room for growth in cooperation between China and the U.S.,” Wu remarked. “The two countries can still achieve mutual benefit, win-win results, and common prosperity, creating a better life for the people of both countries.”
The London meeting follows a high-level engagement on economic and trade affairs held in Geneva in May. Wu highlighted that the Geneva meeting set a positive precedent for China-U.S. negotiations. “It proves that the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries far outweighs the possibilities of divergence and conflict,” he said.
Additionally, a recent phone call between the two heads of state has further paved the way for bilateral consultations, injecting new momentum into China-U.S. relations.
