China and Kyrgyzstan Pledge to Boost Cooperation and Connectivity

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov have pledged to strengthen the partnership between their two nations, emphasizing opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, and regional connectivity. The leaders met on Tuesday on the sidelines of the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.

“China-Kyrgyzstan relations are at their best in history and full of potential for cooperation,” President Xi remarked during the meeting. He highlighted the progress made since the establishment of diplomatic ties 33 years ago, noting that bilateral relations have achieved leapfrog development.

President Xi called for expanding trade and investment between the two countries, deepening financial cooperation, and enhancing connectivity networks. A key project discussed was the high-quality construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which aims to boost regional trade and economic integration.

The Chinese president also proposed strengthening collaboration in emerging sectors such as clean energy, green mining, and artificial intelligence. He emphasized the importance of cultural, tourism, education, and healthcare exchanges, advocating for more people-centered projects to deepen mutual understanding.

President Japarov expressed strong support for the three major global initiatives proposed by President Xi. He affirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to close coordination within frameworks like the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to promote regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.

“Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to developing relations with China and cherishes the strategic partnership based on mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and good-neighborliness,” President Japarov stated.

He welcomed more Chinese companies to invest in Kyrgyzstan, especially in sectors like energy and green mining. President Japarov also reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s support for the one-China principle and opposition to any external interference in China’s internal affairs.

The meeting concluded with the two leaders witnessing the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents in areas including agriculture, customs, science and technology, and media. Both nations look forward to successively assuming the rotating chairmanship of the SCO and hosting its summits, with a shared vision to further the organization’s development.

The strengthened partnership between China and Kyrgyzstan signals a commitment to shared growth and stability in the region, offering new opportunities for young people and fostering a more interconnected future.
