On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. The two leaders discussed enhancing their countries’ partnership, aiming to expand cooperation across various fields.
President Xi emphasized China’s willingness to work with Turkmenistan to fully unlock the potential of their bilateral cooperation based on mutual respect and a win-win approach. He highlighted the importance of deepening the depth, breadth, and scale of their collaborative efforts to build a China-Turkmenistan community with a shared future.
The leaders agreed to expand natural gas cooperation, explore opportunities in non-resource sectors, optimize trade structures, and improve regional connectivity. President Xi also suggested accelerating the establishment of cultural centers in each country to promote stronger people-to-people connections.
Expressing support for Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), President Xi noted China’s appreciation for Turkmenistan’s role as a permanent neutral state in international affairs. He expressed China’s readiness to strengthen coordination with Turkmenistan on global and regional issues, jointly safeguarding the multilateral trading system and championing the common interests of the Global South.
