Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan recently visited Beijing at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, signaling a significant step forward in the relationship between the two nations.
During the visit, Mirzoyan described the trip as “a timely opportunity to assess what has been achieved and map the road ahead.” He highlighted key milestones in bilateral ties, including plans to increase trade turnover by $700 million in 2024 and the launch of a direct flight between Yerevan and Urumqi.
Mirzoyan praised China’s active role in international diplomacy and peacebuilding, noting that Armenia aligns with China on core principles such as multilateralism, territorial integrity, and resolving conflicts through dialogue. He emphasized the synergy between Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative and China’s Belt and Road vision.
The foreign minister also expressed Armenia’s readiness to deepen its engagement within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), an indication of the country’s commitment to regional collaboration.
This year marks the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic ties between Armenia and China. As both countries look to the future, their strengthened partnership promises to foster greater peace and connectivity in the region.
