When Zheng Zhiyuan moved from the island of Taiwan to Shenzhen to help in his uncle’s restaurant, he never imagined the impact he would make. Driven by a passion to create change, Zheng went on to launch a thriving bakery staffed entirely by people with disabilities.
“I wanted to create a space where everyone feels valued and capable,” Zheng explained. “Our bakery isn’t just about making bread; it’s about making a difference.”
With assistance from the local government, Zheng’s bakery has become a beacon of empowerment in the bustling city of Shenzhen, part of the southern Greater Bay Area that includes Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, and Macao. His mission is to help his workers—and others in society—gain independence and enjoy full, meaningful lives.
By providing employment opportunities and skills training, the bakery is breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes about people with disabilities. “Seeing our team grow in confidence and ability is the most rewarding part,” Zheng shared.
The success of Zheng’s bakery highlights the importance of inclusivity and support for marginalized communities. It serves as an inspiration for young people across the Greater Bay Area and beyond, showcasing how dedication and compassion can drive positive social change.
